I don’t personally know the driver being charged, but my parents know his parents very well. I have friends who do know him, and basically say he’s an asshole, even before this. Here’s a picture I took of his Ram (the one that did the Ramming) several months ago:

I don’t think I really need to go into what a despicable, cowardly thing this was for him to do. Everything I know about the incident this far is contained in that news article. I have no connections to the victims but hopefully they all make full recoveries.

Update : He’s being charged as an adult, and as such they have released his name, which is a little late for those of us in the community. Mods permitting I’ll update again after his hearing.

16 years old gets you charged as an adult where I’m at. I take it this isn’t the case in Nebraska?

I’m not 100% sure, but I think that around here anyone under 18 is held at the youth detention center even if they are being tried as an adult. If convicted and given a sentence that takes them past their 18th birthday, they are transferred to the adult jail/prison when they turn 18.

I hope the guy who was ejected from the car is okay. But more so I hope he learns his goddam lesson and starts wearing a seatbelt.

In every story like this someone gets ejected from their car. Is not wearing a seatbelt an American thing? I swear I’ve never known anyone to do it.

That Ram looks much nicer than a Rav-4. I think it should be given to the victims as compensation on top of the value of their Rav-4 in cash. This kid obviously has no business owning a vehicle anyway.

That’s a whole lot of truck for belonging to a 16-year-old. And I suppose you can add hit and run to his list of charges. My guess, though, is that daddy can afford a good lawyer. I doubt this kid will see 20 years. In fact, I would be surprised if he goes to jail at all.

Just had a jerkhole in a similar truck (F-150, lifted, tint, etc.) make a dangerous pass and nearly run me off the road. We were already doing almost 10 over, but I guess that wasn’t fast enough. Our roads are narrow with no shoulder and deep ditches. If my kids hadn’t been with me, I would have followed him home and chatted with his daddy about it.

I really need to get a dash cam.
